Governing Physics: Resistance, Dielectric Integrity & Signal Noise Mitigation
The electrical performance and thermal threshold of a custom wiring loom are governed by fundamental electrical principles. Conductor resistance and voltage drop across a wiring assembly are defined by the standard resistivity equation:
R = ρ · (L / A)
Where R is conductor resistance (Ohms), ρ is material resistivity (Ω·m), L is length (m), and A is cross-sectional conductor area (m²). In high-temperature sensor applications, elevated thermal conditions increase resistivity (ρ), making optimal conductor gauge selection critical to prevent signal loss.
Furthermore, for low-level sensor signals (such as Coriolis pick-off coils or temperature sensors), mitigating Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) is critical. Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) is optimised using braided shielding and twisted-pair routing:
SNR = 20 · log₁₀(S / N)
Where S is the sensor signal magnitude and N is the coupled electromagnetic noise voltage.
